“Drumming is the Real Food of Life” – Kebba Bojang

Kebba Bojang is also known as Rasta, and is a popular djembe foola drummer.  He learned the basic unit of tradition and culture regarding the djembe rhythms and its meaning.  The djembe is a specific style of drum that “provides joy and happiness,” Kebba says. It was the best instrument for communication between the two places or villages a long time ago. The words of djembe will never be finished.  Kebba invites you to find out.

Kebba is now at home in Sanyang Village and has his own drumming group and teaches young children and tourists in the culture and the art.

When asked what his overall goal is, Kebba replied:

“My intention is to explode my inspiration to the entire world by showing them the real culture and tradition of Africa, especially Gambia.  We do lots of masks dancing, stick dancing, fire dancing and grass dancing. If it were possible, I would like to go to Europe and promote my culture.”
