Time is everything.  Artists need to be able to focus on their art.  We work, take care of the kids, make sure the bills are paid, cook and clean too, right?  Then around 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm, we can sit at our keyboards or pick up the guitar and start to work on what matters to our soul.

We’ve got in-house studio set ups with our Mac computers or Windows computers using Cakewalk or whatever software for recording.  We’ve got the guitars.  We’ve got the paint brushes and the canvas.  For the most part, we have everything we need with the exception of time.

You sit down to compose and it’s hard to keep the nonsense out of your brain – I’ve got to pay this bill, that bill, tomorrow the kids have soccer practice at six, etc.  How to clear the mind for art?  Who is responsible for cleaning this up?  You.  Who created your life situation? You.

Change your thinking.  When you are doing music, be music.  When you are doing Mom or Dad, be Mom or Dad and nothing else.  Being present in the moment is everything.  Lend yourself to the task at hand by being the task you are performing.
